It’s a new year and a new start. Many people are looking in the mirror noticing the extra fat and bulges they have accumulated from all the festivities and edible treats associated with the holidays. Among these people are mothers who have experienced multiple pregnancies. Every mother knows the havoc that pregnancy and childbirth can wreak on the body. Motherhood often leads to physical body transformations, such as loose, hanging abdominal skin and tissue, sagging breasts, and excess fat throughout the body. These women could benefit from a combination of procedures, known as the Mommy Makeover, designed to reverse the effects of pregnancy.
Mommy Makeover Procedures
Women looking to restore their pre-pregnancy body can benefit from undergoing one or more plastic surgeries. Depending on your body type and goals, a Mommy Makeover combines procedures for postpartum body contouring.
Correct Sagging, Lifeless Breasts
Due to pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts are often left with irreversible damages. Many women will experience a loss of breast tissue elasticity and develop sagging that can only be corrected with surgery. Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is an ideal procedure performed to lift and reshape the breasts. Through incisions made around the areolas and possibly on the lower breast tissue, any sagging skin and excess breast tissue can be removed. The remaining tissue is reshaped to create youthful breast contours.
Restore Breast Volume
Some women may not experience breast sagging but lose breast volume. Breast augmentation surgery is designed to increase the size of the breasts using saline or silicone breast implants. Through an incision either along the breast crease, around the areola, or within the armpit, breast implants are placed to restore volume in the breasts.
Tighten and Tone the Abdomen
During pregnancy, the body expands to make room for a growing baby. After childbirth, the belly will lose that excess girth and is often left with sagging tissue and skin that are unresponsive to traditional diet methods. The abdomen is left with a “pooch” in addition to stretched and weakened abdominal muscles. Tummy tuck surgery can be performed to remove excess skin and fat as well as tighten the abdominal muscles. An incision is made from hip bone to hip bone across the lower belly just above the pubic line. Any excess fat is removed, excess skin is trimmed away, the abdominal muscles are corrected, and the remaining skin is redraped over the newly shaped contours. Mothers can achieve a slender, more toned midsection that complements the entire silhouette.
Eliminate Stubborn Fat
As the body grows to create room for the baby during pregnancy, excess fat tends to accumulate. For the majority of patients, the fat stored during pregnancy does not go away even with a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Liposuction can be performed on multiple areas of the body to remove stubborn fat. A few, small incisions are made in the target area(s), and a device is inserted to melt the fatty deposits. Through a cannula (thin, hollow tube) connected to a suction device, the melted fat is eliminated from the body.
