The Brazilian Butt Lift (also known as a BBL) is one of the most effective procedures to add dramatic volume, plumpness, and shape to their backside.
Over the last several years, the Brazilian Butt Lift has become the “it procedure” to help patients achieve the curves they’ve always wanted. However, many women and men don’t fully understand the BBL procedure and how it can help contour their bodies.
To help you better understand this procedure, we will explain how the Brazilian Butt Lift is performed, what to expect for your recovery, and what results this popular procedure can achieve.
What Is the Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a trusted plastic surgery procedure that utilizes fat transfer (or fat grafting) to enhance the size, shape, and volume of a patient’s backside. While the Brazilian Butt Lift can help any patient who feels self-conscious about the appearance of their butt, most people who consider this procedure are women.
How Is a BBL Performed?
For this procedure, liposuction surgery is used to remove fat from one area of the body (usually the abdomen, hips, thighs, or back). Fat is generally taken from a combination of these areas to create a technique known as Lipo 360. This helps narrow the circumference of the waist, highlighting the hourglass shape provided by this procedure.
The harvested fat is then purified so that only the most beneficial fat remains. This fat is then injected into strategic areas of the buttocks to increase and improve volume and shape. The BBL is performed under general anesthesia and can take several hours to complete.
What to Expect After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery?
Like every cosmetic surgery, a Brazilian Butt Lift requires a recovery period. While the specific length of recovery varies with each patient and depends on several factors, you can expect two weeks of downtime and even longer with an altered routine.
During this time, do not put direct pressure on the butt (including sitting or lying on your back). You will want to rest on your stomach initially and ensure you do not sit for extended periods. We recommend sitting on a BBL or nursing pillow to support your weight and protect your results.
Once your swelling has subsided completely (usually after six to eight weeks), you can return to your everyday activities.
Though the Brazilian Butt Lift is often performed as a standalone procedure, some patients choose to combine or follow their BBL with other body contouring procedures, including liposuction, tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty), or a full-combination procedure such as Mommy Makeover surgery.
Since the BBL requires you to stay off your buttocks, it is not often performed with other plastic surgeries that require you to rest on your back, such as breast procedures.
What Are the Benefits of the Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift can help you achieve the fuller, shapely backside you’ve always wanted. Also, because the Brazilian Butt Lift requires liposuction, you can achieve a thinner, more contoured physique in the area of the body where the fat was harvested.
Not only can a BBL improve your physical appearance, but you can look forward to a better sense of comfort and confidence with your body (whether you’re out at a party, shopping at the store, or sharing an intimate time with your partner).
What About the Results?
Another benefit of this procedure is that Brazilian Butt Lift offers long-lasting results. Your BBL results are essentially permanent; however, this procedure cannot prevent the natural effects of aging. Because of this, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet to ensure that you look and feel the way you want for years to come.
